It’s that time of year again; the Christmas Pantomime Season is fast approaching. (Oh no it isn’t! Oh yes it is!). True, pantomimes are cheesy and usually full of washed-up Z-list celebrities and ex soap actors, but there’s no denying that it’s a little bit of a guilty pleasure.
Theatres all round the UK are already getting ready for the productions of several pantos, including Cinderella, Snow White, Aladdin and Sleeping Beauty.
You may see a fair few familiar faces while browsing through the Panto guide this year, including BAFTA winning Comedienne Jo Brand in Aladdin, Louie Spence in Cinderella and Happy Days star Henry “The Fonz” Winkler in Peter Pan.
You can catch performances in most parts of the UK, including, London, Brighton, Manchester and Birmingham, depending on what production you want to see.
Pantomimes in the UK have become a bit of a tradition over the years at Christmas. Parents pretend they are dragged to them by their children, but by the middle of the performance, they find themselves chanting loudly “he’s behind you”, much to the embarrassment of their offspring.
So this year, if you’re a panto-virgin, go with the family and experience a night of hammy laughs, as embarrassed you may be to admit, you know you’ll love it.
