It was nearly 10 years ago that Hassocks Parish Council announced they no longer had the budget to supply the village with Christmas decorations. So the community decided to take matters into their own hands raising the money and making the lights bigger and brighter than before.
This year is no exception. The event will be opened by the Burgess Hill Town Crier at about 4:30pm. This will also simultaneously mark the start of the parade. The parade will start it’s route at The Hassocks Pub go down Keymer Road to Villa Adastra and then back turn on itself.
After the Parade there will be a small nativity outside the United Reformed church out on by neighboring Hassocks Infants School. Santa will then be ‘open for business’ at Eddingtons where he will be happy to meet the local children.
There will be a lot going on along the High Street including a ‘Crimbo food market’ arranged by Knight’s Budgens, an open roasted horse chestnut sale, a small funfair and lots of performances from local choirs, drama groups etc. Don’t forget to admire the shop windows as local businesses will be competing in the ‘best dressed window’ competition.
The absolute highlight of the evening will be the turning on of the lights which will take place at 5:15pm and is traditionally done by a local celebrity. For more updates click here
