The Brighton Women’s Centre will be celebrating International Women’s Day on Friday 8th of March with a ‘fundraising extravaganza’ at the Sallis Benney Theatre located on Grand Parade in Brighton. Performers will include a variety of acts, including a ukulele ensemble; stand up comedy and many singing acts.
This event raises awareness of international women’s day which strives to provide equality to all women. The UN theme for International Women’s Day 2013 is “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women,” while International Women’s Day 2013 has declared the year’s theme as The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum.
The event will undoubtedly showcase Brighton’s ever growing reputation for being one of the most diverse cities in the UK.
Masters of ceremonies Maria Jastrzebska and Rachel Beck will look to keep the event running smoothly and make sure everybody has a fun-filled experience.
Headlining acts include Qukulele, the first and only LGBT ukulele band around, whose sound is guaranteed to generate a lively atmosphere. They will be accompanied by stand up comedian Sarah Wilkins who will get everybody laughing and fired up.
Among the anticipated acts, multi instrumentalist singer AMiTY will look to express their talent on the stage on a night sure to be filled with unusual acts and great stage presence.
Tickets cost £10 and concessions are £6. The doors are planned to open at 7pm with the night kicking into gear at around 7:30pm. Closing time is predicted to be around 10:30pm but this may matter for little as the night is sure to be one that guests will not want to end.
