Last year was a bloody good year for films. Box office records were broken and the top 3 highest grossing films of 2012 (‘Avengers Assemble’, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘Skyfall’) were not only watched by millions but were critically acclaimed. But now that the buzz has ended on 2012’s vast library of films it’s time to get it going again with what 2013 has to offer to our cinemas.
3. The Wolverine
There’s a lot at stake with this new X men movie. After the disappointment that was X Men Origins: Wolverine (let’s not go there), there’s a lot of pressure for this film to get things right. James Mangold (Director of ‘3:10 to Yuma’) helms the project and Hugh Jackman returns to his renowned role promising that you’ll see Wolverine “more vulnerable than you’ve ever seen him before”.
2. Star Trek Into Darkness
Even though I’m not a Trekkie, I’m intrigued to see how this will turn out. I’ve forgotten what happened in the first one but I’m hoping that won’t be a problem. This seems a much darker affair and one that sees Benedict Cumberbatch challenging Chris Pine’s Kirk in a way that makes me think I’m not going to be able to predict what happens. Maybe Spock dies……who knows.
1. Iron Man 3
It’s Iron Man. It’s Robert Downey Jr. It’s the first Marvel film since ‘Avengers Assemble’. What more do I need to say really? I am fairly confident in this one. It certainly seems more story based than its predecessors as Tony Stark seems to face challenges on an
intellectual level. Even the synopsis reads ‘does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?’. Time will tell.
