Book Review: Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion

By Elizabeth Hughes

“I am dead, but it’s not so bad. I’ve learned to live with it.”

Meet ‘R’, the witty hero and narrator of this original debut novel. R is a zombie – but don’t let that put you off.

Among the supernatural beings which have stormed popular culture recently it’s vampires and werewolves we adore. Zombies are at the bottom of the pecking order: unloved, mindless and deeply un-sexy.

The rotting hero in Warm Bodies could change your mind. You quickly empathise with R and his struggles in a dark future world.

There is plenty of action, danger and romance plus believable characters you care about.
The film, starring Nicolas Hoult and John Malkovich, is due for release in 2012. Get ahead of the pack and read this compelling book first. It will have you laughing out loud and hoping that it’s the guy without the heart who finally gets the girl.
