Brighton bus service described as “inadequate” by local MP

A Conservative MP has branded a bus service “inadequate” and called for improvements from Brighton and Hove City Council.

Simon Kirby, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, has issued the plea after discovering that 90 per cent of residents in Lower Bevendean, Brighton stated they felt the 49A service in the area was below par.

MP Eleanor Laing calls for new bank holiday to celebrate Magna Carta

Every day should be a holiday, sang the Dandy Warhols, and if a Conservative MP gets her way then the UK could be enjoying a special bank holiday from 2015.

Eleanor Laing, MP for Epping Forest, recently introduced a Ten Minute Rule Bill to the House of Commons calling for a bank holiday on June 15th 2015 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.

News: Caroline Lucas MP speaks to Brighton students

Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas has given NCTJ journalism students at City College Brighton and Hove an insight into her first year in Parliament.

Speaking to the group on Friday (May 13), Green Party Leader, Dr. Lucas, said her first few months in Westminster were “really difficult”.

As the first ever Green MP and the sole representative of her party, there was no one to explain to her the workings of Parliament.

While most MPs were helpful, she said there were exceptions – most notably the MP who, when she went to shake his hand after meeting him for a second time, almost recoiled in horror declaring: “In this House we only shake hands once.”
